mission & Model

Donate

This is not about charity

For the past decade, the Gambia Academy has been powered almost entirely by the personal income of its Founder and Director, Dr. Sona Jobarteh, who has invested the proceeds of her international music career to keep the Academy alive. From teacher salaries and student meals to construction, transport, and healthcare - she has carried this mission singlehandedly.

Today, as the Academy continues to grow, we invite individuals, institutions, and partners to join in this journey - to sustain, strengthen, and expand this model across The Gambia and the African continent.

This is a call to those who believe that education is the most powerful tool for transformation.

Four Impact Areas Of Donations

Curriculum Development

Invest in the creation of Africa’s first scalable, decolonised curriculum designed to embed African history, culture, and realities into every classroom. Your support funds curriculum specialists and teacher training to ensure the model can expand across nations

Infrastructure & Expansion

We are entering Phase II of campus construction - new facilities for Science, Engineering, Agriculture, IT, Music Technology, Dance, and Art.

Donors can invest not only in the building, but in the impact of an entire department: from teaching spaces to student startups, community outreach, and national dissemination programs.

Human Capital & Sustainability

Every transformative school begins with people. Your donation supports the salaries, training, and wellbeing of teachers and staff - as well as volunteer and exchange programs that strengthen our professional network.

Student Support & Welfare

From daily meals and healthcare to uniforms, books, and transport, your contribution directly uplifts students’ quality of life - ensuring they can learn, grow, and thrive without barriers.

Transparency & Accountability

Every contribution is directed toward tangible outcomes - from curriculum development and campus construction to student welfare and teacher training. We maintain full transparency in our operations, providing regular updates on all funded projects and measurable progress.

The Academy’s proven delivery record - including the successful completion of Phase I of our dedicated campus funded by the Zakat Foundation - reflects our ability to deliver excellence with every resource entrusted to us.

We are proud to have earned the trust and collaboration of globally respected institutions, including UNICEF, the International Trade Centre (ITC), the Silicon Valley Film Festival, and the Goethe Foundation. Their support underscores the Academy’s credibility and the shared belief that investing in African education is investing in sustainable global progress.
